A while back I noticed when I was home in the afternoons, and the house was quiet (Hutch down for his nap, big kids at school) that there was a LOT of "traffic" on my rooftop. One day when I heard it I decided to run outside and see if I could tell what was going on. Well, I followed the noise to the side of our house where I saw a squirrel climbing into a hole (that I can only assume he made) in the side of our house.
Today I heard the noise and decided to see if I could bust the little cuss again! We had a true stare down! I won of course, he hopped a branch and took off across the fence....after being pushed completely out of the hole by his fairweather friend!
THEN, I decided to see if the hole went where I thought it went! Sure enough, it did! I got my flashlight and camera, and I went up to the little attic in Hutch's room. Sure enough, that is where the little guys have been keeping warm and dry this winter. While I do love animals of all kinds, I don't really like the thought of the whole animal kindom living adjacent to Hutch's room, so the hole will have to be patched, and the little guys will have to go find a new attic to break into, because we are ONTO THEM at this house!
look close, you see him about to go in the hole?
here is where we were having the stare down...check out that hole!!!
here is the door in Hutch's room that leads to the attic where the happy squirrels have been living
check out the hole from the inside!
I really do hate to leave them out in the cold (not really), but I was very glad not to find a big nest of baby squirrels up there. Les was going to set some traps, and that did not sound great to me. Looks like we can just chase them out, and have someone patch up that hole and be done with it. Geez, it's always something, huh?
